Family Ministry (FM) is a key component of Harvest DeSoto’s mission to make disciples. FM intentionally acknowledges that parents are primarily responsible for their children’s spiritual formation and discipleship (Deut 6:4–9). Thus, FM creates processes and practices so that parents are acknowledged, trained, and held accountable as the persons primarily responsible for the discipleship of their children, with church family being secondarily responsible.
These processes and practices must have a missional and discipleship focus which comports with missional group life. The two core values, disciple-making and missional living, must drive events and other youth activities.
FM Includes Four Specific, but Interrelated Components.
Marriage:
FM will help couples align their marriage according to God’s created intent for health, stability, and harmony.
Nuclear Family:
FM will support the nuclear family because it is the incubator for healthy spiritual development.
Church Family:
The local church is a family of families and will assist families in nurturing one another within a rich matrix of intergenerational relationships providing spiritual parents for children. In time, these relationships will become integral to the discipleship of our younger generations.
Children and Youth:
In our current culture, young people are isolated and have fewer healthy peer on peer interactions due to social media and other factors. The Bridge, our monthly FM program, will offer healthy peer interactions with a focus on discipleship allowing them to build meaningful Gospel relationships with peers and adults who disciple them. The Bridge will nurture the next generation of believers in evangelism, worship, fellowship, service, and discipleship.
